VKYC

Short for video KYC, which RBI’s rules call V-CIP: the identity check done live on a video call with a trained official of the bank, treated as equal to doing it in person. Axis Bank’s card policy, for example, sends online applicants to one after they submit their application.

The official records the call, takes your photo, checks your Aadhaar or another ID, and sees your PAN card held up to the camera, unless you have an e-PAN; a printout doesn’t count. The call can’t connect from outside India, it records where you are, and the bank has to reject it if anyone is prompting you.
