Capping

A ceiling on rewards: past it, the capped reward stops for that month or statement cycle, however much more you spend. A cap can cover one kind of spend or the whole card; HDFC Bank’s MITC, for example, caps points on groceries, utilities and telecom each month, and the total a card can earn in a statement cycle.

Using points can be capped too: HDFC Bank’s MITC limits how many points a month can go on flights and hotels. Extra points have caps of their own; HDFC Bank’s Infinia terms cap the extra points earned through SmartBuy at 15,000 a month, and from 1 July 2026, at 3,000 of those on brand vouchers.
