WordsThe day your bill is made
Statement date
The day your card’s bill is made, closing one billing cycle, the stretch between two bills. The bill lists what you spent and paid since the last one, with a payment due date; in HDFC Bank’s MITC example, a bill made on 4 May is due on 24 May.
RBI’s rules give you at least a fortnight to pay before interest starts, and let you move your billing cycle to a date you choose at least once. Separately, RBI’s rules have banks report to the credit bureaus four times a month, as on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and last day, since 1 July 2026.
