WordsFirst year free

FYF

Short for first year free: the card’s fee for its first year is waived. After that the annual fee, which banks also call the renewal fee, is charged at the start of each card year unless the card is lifetime free or you’ve met its spend condition; that’s how HDFC Bank’s fee page, for example, puts it.

Some cards waive the first year’s fee only if you spend a set amount early on, and HDFC Bank’s MITC, for example, lists spend-within-90-days waivers on some of its cards. At HDFC Bank, benefits tied to paying the fee don’t come with first year free pricing.
